Wide Wide Web Market In China |August 22, 2005
A number of papers today carry the news about Internet businesses wanting to get a
share of China's Internet market.
We featured a news on this site
last week
about Yahoo's merger move with China's auction and trading firm Alibaba.com.
Among the big ones, those who have already gained a share of the China Internet pie include Google,
Amazon and eBay.
China's booming economy certainly is the major factor in this move. More than this, I guess,
is the projection on the Chinese market. I've made some research on the Internet usage statistics on China versus the western world.
As shown in chart below, China's Internet market has barely been scratched . Today's Internet users
in the U.S. number 223 million people representing 68 per cent of the U.S. population. As for China, with just 30 per cent of
its population clicking the mouse a couple of years from today, the market would be an enormous 260 million.
Do your math statistics using the chart below as reference
and find out why big businesses from the U.S. and Europe are joining the great march to China.
