Google's Success puts Microsoft on the Learning Curve | Oct. 28, 2005
The success of Google in various fronts has put Microsoft on the learning path very seriously.
The later's business model may possibly undergo some revision.
On the search front, the software giant plans to give users more relevance and value.
That would be a tall order considering that Google appears to be a foot ahead than all the rest in the search arena.
Google at this point is like the Olympian golden trackster Carl Lewis during his prime.
When Lewis leaped - as in the '84 and '96 Olympics - the best that his closest competitor could do was minimize
the time difference between him and Lewis.
Microsoft could gain a lesson or two from this Olympics saga when it does a re-writing of its business plan.
In the area of book digitizing and scanning, which Google is testing on beta stage at this stage and is bent on excelling here,
Microsoft may have better chances of competiting toe to toe with Google.
But it has to first shed excess megabytes in most of its application program (Word, etc.). It seems the Redmond
rich guys will have to go back to the basics and the fundamentals.
And as for Microsost's forthcoming Vista release - it better be good or it will be the software
behemoth's Waterloo. Unlike its past operating system releases, this time around its competitors are better poised
to offer better competing products.
